Where Do Chewroots Come From?

G&W Chewroots are sourced from three species of hardwood trees. They are harvested by hand, in an ecologically safe way, from the tree roots in protected areas. This ensures there is no damage to the root system of the trees or the forests in which they grow.  The roots are then air-dried for months before being cut into different shapes and sizes to create safe and durable chews.

 Are They Sustainable?

Only the tuber of the root is harvested which then sprouts again, making them eco-sustainable. As the tubers used for these chews are harvested from trees that can be continually grown and replenished, it makes them a renewable resource. Due to being cultivated in an environmentally sustainable manner, it ensures an ethical supply chain. Here at Green & Wild's, we source from an area where the Chewroots are limited to a responsible number each year, to help maintain the environmental equilibrium.

By choosing Chewroots, you not only provide a safe and healthy chew for your dog, it also contributes to a more sustainable and ethical pet industry.

Why are Chewroots Great for Dogs?

  1. Chewroots are an excellent choice for dogs for several reasons. Firstly, they are all-natural, made only from the dried roots of specific, hardwood tree species. This means they are free from artificial additives, preservatives, and chemicals commonly found in many commercial dog chews.
  2. The roots are dense making them a safe option as they don't splinter.
  3. Another significant advantage is their dental benefits. The gnarly parts and varied texture help scrape away plaque and tartar, promoting better oral hygiene and fresher breath. Regular chewing also massages the gums, which can help prevent periodontal disease.
  4. Chewroots are hard but not as hard as bone, and they won’t damage a dog's mouth or teeth. In contrast to bone and weaker types of wood, as a dog chews and works on a chewroot the edges will slowly become slightly softer in texture. This is due to both the chewing action and the pet’s saliva.
  5. They are low in fat, low in odour and extra long-lasting!
  6. Should your pet accidentally swallow any small, loose fibres while enjoying this chew, these will simply pass through your dog's digestive system before being excreted naturally.

How to Choose the Right Size Chewroot for Your Dog

When selecting a Chewroot for your furry friend, it's crucial to consider their size and chewing habits. As a general rule, the chew should be wide enough for your dog to grip comfortably with their jaws but not so large that it becomes unwieldy or difficult to gnaw on. It's also advisable to supervise your dog during chew sessions, especially with new chews, to ensure their safety and appropriateness. With five sizes available in the G&W range, there will be one suitable for your dog.

It's best to introduce a Chewroot or any type of chew to a puppy, slowly. Allow them just a few minutes to start with and then progress to longer periods as their jaws strengthen.

As soon as the Chewroot has reached a size that your dog could swallow, please replace it with a new one.
